Man
has always been a pack animal. Most human beings have the same basic
needs. Taking the basic human needs like eating, drinking, procreation
and surviving we also need affection. We want to love, and be loved.
Many people will tell you that they can survive on their own, and do not need other people to have a meaningful life. I can understand this to a certain point. Yes you may have been hurt many times, but if you strip your emotions to the core, this yearning is part of our primal instincts. Part of our DNA to put it bluntly.
Being Gay does not change this in any way. We still need to love and be loved. Love and acceptance of people make it easy for us to share our love with others. Not just to our fellow gay men or women but the bigger world out there as well Fear of being rejected and losing love make it difficult for most of us to reach out towards to others.
Sometimes it takes years for us to acknowledge that we might be Gay, the next process is to 'test the water' to see what others might think or how they might react. In other words you have unlocked the closet, opened the door just a few inches to have a look at the big world out there. The next step might be that you have enough confidence to put your hand out of the closet, just to experience someone slamming the door shut.
Without further analogy in plain simple terms. You ask a loved one how they feel about gays. They might whack you in the face by saying that all gays are sick bastards and should die of some STD. The result will most definitely be that you step back into the closet, definitely away from this insensitive old Cow or Bull.
We all need unconditional love. Surround yourself with loving and understanding people. They are the ones that know your heart, who trust your judgement and respects you in full. It might sound impossible to find all of this in one person, but find people who love you for who you are.
Please do not step back into the closet, on account of others who do not have peace with themselves. Love yourself, and others will love you back, because they enjoy the love they get from you whether you are Gay, straight or live on Mars.
